"An important part of any portfolio program is the goal setting that students do".(112)
This is a small statement but powerful in meaning and understanding it importance for student development. Learning to write and using a portfolio requires that students take an active role in learning. Teacher who utilize writing portfolios give the students rook to grow and assess themselves. I think most students with checks and balances will thrive under these conditions.
Teenagers want independence and this program offers it to them However, teachers must regularity check on the contents to make sure each goal is attained.
The writing workshop will offer both teacher and class the freedom to develop while working towards independance. The tools provided in the program not only create a thoughtful writer but perpares students for the next step in life.

I al so believe that setting goals is ver important. We need to have students involved in the goal making process so they have ownership over achieving and surpassing goals. It is time to empower our students!
ReplyDeleteI like this idea as well, because it allows freedom for both student and teacher to explore multiple modes of writing and, one at a time, student builds a final work they can be proud of, and which more closely reflects who they are and what they like about writing!
